The calm magic of acoustic music is no privilege of, let’s say, Norwegian or British musicians: Alise Joste from Latvia has the artistical power to wipe away everything trivial and ordinary and take her listeners to hidden places… In her homeland, she’s a well-known part of the singer-songwriter scene since 2008. In 2015 Alise has released her second record “Hardships Are Ships”. And became the first ever winner of the Latvian “Austra Award” in the category “Best Album”.

When asked about her music, Alise says: “As I consider myself as a pretty shy person, it’s always been very hard for me to talk about the things that are happening to me, what I think or feel. For a long time I kept it all to myself, until unexpectedly found songwriting being the way I could finally talk to others and myself honestly.”

This musical honesty has paved her the way to concert rooms in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary and to festivals like Tallinn Music Week, Berlin Music Week, Reeperbahn Festival, Lost in Music and Waves Vienna/Bratislava. Each concert attracted new fans, mesmerized by Alise’s well-crafted melodies, personal lyrics, subtle and delicate approach to the live performance.

In late 2016 Alise Joste will set sails for her first full tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Selected Press:

  • “It’s still quite a mystery to us that Latvian singer/songwriter Alise Joste isn’t more famous outside her home country. (…) Hardships Are Ships is as sweet and gentle as its predecessor as it unfolds an intimate and truly beautiful atmosphere. (…) Our advice is to get a hold of it as soon as you can.” (NBHAP)
  • “In Germany she has already found enthusiastic audiences at Berlin Music Week and Reeperbahn Festival. Alise impresses with the balance of fragility and intensity that mark her compositions.” (Mix 1)
